Lego Campaign Exam Question
How has media language been used to create meaning in the lego movie advertising campaign? Talk about the poster and the trailer
In the Lego Movie poster of Emmet, he is presented as being a normal lego person. The use of the low camera angle suggests that he has not got a lot of power and influence and the tilted angle, connoting that he is confused and reflects the movies hybrid genre. This reinforces his role of the 'accidental hero' which is then highlighted as he is screaming. His normality is then further implied due to the fact that he is 'white'/ yellow which is the traditional lego character's skin colour. This also conforms to the stereotype of how white people are presented as good people in media.
In the lego movie trailer, editing is used to create meaning. For example, in the BT Infinity segment, the editing is very fast paced. This establishes the fun and uplifting mood that viewers might feel whilst watching the movie. In addition, the fast editing accentuates the slowness of the wifi, which is then fixed by BT Infinity, making viewers feel like if they get that wifi, there's will never be slow. This therefore appeals to a mass audience because adults will want to know about the wifi as well as being able to see how the toys they used to play with have evolved, and children will want to see the lego.
